PREAMBLE
The Board of
Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) has adopted and,
as a condition of obtaining and maintaining their certification,
each Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) accepts the
Code of Ethics. In accepting the Code of Ethics, each CRSP pledges
to subscribe not only to the letter but also to the spirit of the
Code in all of their professional activities.
PURPOSE
The purpose
of the Code of Ethics is to provide guidelines to ensure that Canadian
Registered Safety Professionals (CRSPs) adhere to high ethical standards
of practice.
The ethical
relationships of CRSPs are defined in order to ensure that their
conduct will:
a) provide
sound judgement in pursuance of their professional duties;
b) maintain the highest standards of integrity and professional
competence; and,
c) uphold the honour and prestige of the profession.
PROFESSIONAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
Canadian Registered
Safety Professionals (CRSPs) shall:
- Protect
and promote the safety and health of people, property and the
environment above any
consideration of self-interest.
- Engage only
in activities that maintain and enhance the quality of their professional
services.
- Avoid circumstances
where compromise of professional conduct or conflict of interest
may
arise.
- Be objective
in the application of recognized scientific methods and in the
interpretation of
findings.
- Recognize
and respect the original work, integrity and ability of their
peers.
- Recognize
their professional limitations and level of competence as well
as the special skills of
others in related professions.
- Continue
professional development throughout their career and support and
encourage fellow
CRSPs to develop professionally.
- Protect
the confidentiality of all professionally acquired information
and disclose such
information only when properly authorized or when legally obligated
to do so.
- Represent
their qualifications and experience accurately and not knowingly
make false or
misleading statements.
- Keep apprised
of the law as it relates to professional practice.
- Practice
to the best of their ability, recognizing that discrimination
on the basis of race, creed,
colour, language, national origin, political or religious affiliation,
sex, sexual orientation, age,
marital status, family relationship and disability is prohibited
by and within the BCRSP.
PROFESSIONAL
PRACTICE
Canadian Registered
Safety Professionals (CRSPs) shall:
- Comply with
the relevant provisions of the certification scheme.
- Make claims
regarding certification only with respect to the scope for which
certification has
been granted.
- Not use
the certification in such a manner as to bring the certification
body into disrepute,
and not make any statement regarding the certification which the
certification body may
consider misleading or unauthorized.
- Discontinue
the use of all claims to certification that contains any reference
to the certification
body or certification upon suspension or withdrawal of certification,
and to return any certificates
issued by the certification body.
- Not use
the certificate in a misleading manner.
