MANAGING HEALTH & SAFETY FOR
THE 21st CENTURY:
WHY YOUR ORGANIZATION NEEDS A PROFESSIONAL
The Challenge
Increasing health hazards in the
workplace, mounting legislative obligations for employers, and the
enormous costs associated with occupational mishaps all add up to
one strong message: you can't afford anything less than a health
and safety professional.
The days when you gave the safety
job to anyone who showed an interest are long gone. The complexities
of managing health and safety-from identifying potential hazards
to controlling these hazards-demand expertise and experience.
The
Solution
Hire a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
What's
a CRSP?
- An
individual who has met the academic, experience and examination
requirements of a national registration authority.
- An
individual with in-depth knowledge of health and safety principles
and practices who uses this knowledge to develop systems in your
workplace in order to achieve optimum control over hazards detrimental
to people, equipment, material and the environment.
- An
individual committed to the principles of loss control, accident
prevention and environmental protection.
- An
individual whose knowledge and skills are continually upgraded
through a certification maintenance program to ensure you always
have a qualified, up-to-date professional managing your health
and safety interests.
- An
individual committed to managing the organization's health and
safety issues and concerns according to a Code of Ethics.
Additional
Benefits Of Employing a CRSP
- You'll
have a professional with a portable designation that is recognized
nationally and internationally.
- You'll
save money since a CRSP can step into the job, eliminating the
need for your organization to invest in training someone about
health and safety.
- You
get a pre-screened individual to help expedite your own recruitment
process.
The
Qualifications that a CRSP Brings To Your Organization
- Successful
completion of applicable education.
- A
minimum of three years of continuous safety experience in a full-time
capacity.
- Successful
completion of a peer examination
- Continuous
updating of knowledge through a certification maintenance program
that demands ongoing professional development.

Background
On The Governing Body
The
Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals is a not-for-profit
association established in 1976 for the purpose of registering qualified
safety practitioners as Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
BCRSP is governed by a Board, composed of 15 leading professionals
from a cross-section of safety disciplines.
The
Board was set up as a certification body, responsible and accountable
to the Federal Government and to the membership of the BCRSP. The
primary functions of the Governing Board are to evaluate the qualifications
of prospective members, to administer examinations, to approve and
issue certificates of registration, to monitor the certification
maintenance program and to initiate disciplinary action against
any CRSP found guilty of violating the BCRSP's Code of Ethics.
The
Board has over 1300 members nationally, including health and safety
managers, occupational health nurses, industrial hygienists and
other specialists.
The
CRSP designation is a growing form of recognition by industry and
government in Canada. Many employers in Canada require that candidates
have the CRSP designation in order to qualify for a safety position.
It also allows BCRSP to ensure the highest standards of excellence
and professionalism are maintained at all times.
