Examination (CRSPEX) Updates

  • The examination consists of multiple choice questions (see Examination Blueprint).
  • There will be 190 to 210 multiple choice questions on the examination.
  • Candidates will have three and one half (3 1/2) hours to complete the examination.
  • The examination may only be written at established Regional Screening Centres (there are 30 Regional Screening Centres located across Canada).
  • Following a successful interview and upon recommendation by the Regional Screening Centre, candidates have two years in which to write the examination. Examination notices will be mailed to all eligible candidates approximately six weeks in advance of each examination date.
  • Candidates who have not written the examination at the end of two years, may, upon written request and payment of the required fee, be granted a one-time, one-year extension. The fee for this extension is $106.00 (includes 6% GST).
  • Candidates who fail the first writing of the examination are permitted up to three supplementary writings over the next two years. The fee for the rewrite is $106.00 (includes 6% GST).
  • The two year supplementary writing period begins as of the failing of the first examination writing.
  • Candidates rewriting the examination will be required to write the full 3 1/2 hour, multiple choice examination.
  • Candidates failing all four (4) writings will have their files closed and must wait a minimum of two (2) years before resubmitting a new application.
